The first Monday of the month is Labor Day. That is a day off for some, but just another day of work for many others. Either way, it does give us a day to think about labor and work, the blessing of work, and the gifts of God that make us physically and mentally able to work. On Labor Day reflect on the positives of labor and work, of gardening and the fruit of the earth, even cooking or of cleaning the house. Ask someone who is no longer able to do these things themselves… these things are not chores but privilege! Also, take a moment to thank a first responder or a medical personnel or caregiver. Days off can be limited for them.
Life and “work” continues at Saint Paul’s. Please notice that Sunday School begins after church next week. Catechism will also begin September 4th. And looking ahead, on Saturday September 14th the Ladies Aid will be making and canning apple butter, on Sunday September 21st will be in the Celebrate Wildwood Parade, and on Sunday September 22th we will host our annual Fall Festival Sausage Supper. I invite you to join us at these events. Hope to see you there.
Above all, September is always a good time to remember teachers and students in your prayers as the school year resumes. It is an exciting time, even in the midst of the difficulties of our world today. Paul said, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?” (Romans 8:35)
Paul’s resounding answer to this question is nothing! No one and nothing, can separate us from the love of Christ. As we step into a new season, Christ’s love is the center of who we are and will shape the way we navigate all the ups and downs. And the wonderful thing about all of this is that we don’t have to do any of this alone.
If you ever find yourself in need of prayer, or other support, you can always reach out. But also bear in mind, nothing can separate us from the love of Christ - nothing.
May God grant us the strength to remind each other of this every day. Amen.
In Christ,
Pastor Chris
